Subject: Messing with subscriber list

A quick question...

how do I do this? I'm learning Perl (rather faster than I would wish) and I
want to be able to manipulate the subscriber list directly rather than
going through an email interface, but I don't understand how the locking
works on Unix (and especially with Majordomo).

Could someone explain it to me?

If I get the lock on the subscriber list file, change it and then unlock
it, will this break Majordomo?
