On many OSs, "adduser" is just a perl or shell script - adding someone to a
list is rather trivial, just add in a line to have it mail a subscribe message to
majordomo (and make sure adduser isn't readable by users, since it'll have the
list password in plaintext [unless you get really fancy]).

I'd be able to give you a more specific answer if I knew which *NIX you're using.
