My previous posting about empty subject lines elicited two replies,
both private.
My problem was that when I piped a BOUNCE posting through the
script approve, it appeared without a subject line.
One answer advised me to use the technique of editing the BOUNCE
message by inserting an Approved: header.
BUT the FAQ advises piping through "approve" as a less error prone
method.
The other answer, from Tim Connolly <tec@mountain.net>, suggested that
I check whether my config file had somehow become corrupted.
So I sent the command
writeconfig listname password
to majordomo
and, sure enough, back came the message that there is an error in the
config file. A message has been sent by the system to the person in
charge of majordomo here. It seems that an ordinary list-owner can't
fix such corruptions him/herself.
It's not clear how errors can arise, as majordomo is supposed to parse
and check that any suggested change by the list-owner to the config
file is correct. But I suppose there are always gamma rays and other
gremlins which could be responsible.
Anyway, thanks for the tip, Tim, though I'm not at all sure that this
is the only thing that has gone wrong with my set-up. But I should
have a better chance with an uncorrupted config file.
David Epstein.
