Forgive me if this is covered somewhere else. I've looked through the
FAQ for something and didn't see anything.
What do you do when you get a bounceback from one of your lists that
has so little information in it that you can't tell which was the offending
address? Some mail servers (MS Exchange) seem to send little or no
info. And then some users forward mail all over the internet so that by
the time you get the bounce, you have no idea which was the first address
in the forwarding chain.
I've seen some list owners send out subscription probes. I suppose that
such a tool sends mail to each address individually and checks whether
that message bounces or not.
How can I perform such a probe? Is there any open software already
written to do it? Or are there any other techniques I could employ?
TIA.
