Then you were doing something wrong. I routinely forward bounced messages
to the list, adding the Approved: password line as the first line of the
body before the original headers, using pine.
Pine strikes me as a rather good email client for majordomo listowners to
use -- it permits piping for those for whom it's useful, it is quite
flexible in its reply options, its forwarding option is a useful way to
deal with bounced messages and to send newconfig commands to the server,
and it's available on a number of different platforms (although,
presumably, piping will only work on platforms which support it).
