Solution found.. thanks to the list

Well, 
all the posts about majordomo having problems with perl 5.005, I thought
i would give reverting back to perl 5.004 a chance. But like I said,
no messages regarding "mailer prog died with error 13" or signal 213, etc 
seemed to coincide with the perl issue.

Well, apparently it does. I switched back to perl 5.004 and all is well. 

So, please dismiss my ignorance, and ignore my last (no subject) post.
