When the digest script receives a message, it prints ``Receiving (n)''
to either stdout/stderr, forget which. Exim (which it looks like is
being used) assumes that this is an error condition, and returns it to
sender. You'll need to get the list owner to remove that line from the
digest script, or tell him to configure Exim properly.
