Yup. And maybe the fact that you see it here would mean that the
"guru" way is right and the other is wrong? Hmmmm.
But let's forget about right/wrong and guru vs newbie. Consider that
it may just be a social convention for this particular list. It may
very well be the only list in the world that behaves this way (it
isn't), but the proper thing is to not criticize those of other
"cultures" and just go with the flow. When in Rome....
To give a technical reason: the list can be slow. I just saw a posting
of mine float by that I sent much earlier in the week. I know that
those experiencing problems prefer to get a direct answer right away
rather than having to wait for the list to catch up (delays,
administrivia bounces, etc). I know I certainly do.
