I am sure the following questions will seem simple and unresearched to some
of you I apologize in advance. Here goes:
For various reasons I have no money and must cobble together computer stuff
where-ever I can. I was able to put together a pentium computer from spare
parts and a little luck. A colleague of mine provided a copy of Win95.
Because I share this computer, I cannot partition it to run linux. My
knowledge of software is quite limited, but I am learning as much and as
fast as I can. Greg is kind enough to loan me his e-mail while I work on my
system.
I am trying to install majordomo on the system. I successfully installed
cygwin32. I also downloaded majordomo 1.94.4, perl 5.005 and egcs. I got
up to the point in the install for majordomo as described in the
documentation to where I should "make wrapper". I have searched he archives
and although I'm sure it must be there somewhere, I was unable to find a
discussion of install problems at this level. Most of the discussions since
I started lurking have dealt with setting up the lists not the install. the
error I receive is:
cc -DBIN=\"/usr/test/majordomo1.94.4\"
-DPATH=\"PATH=/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/ucb\"
-DHOME=\"HOME=/usr/test/majordomo-1.94.4\" DSHELL=\"SHELL=/bin/sh\"
-DMAJORDOMO_CF=\"MAJORDOMO_CF=/usr/test/majordomo-1.94.4/majordomo.cf\" -o
wrapper wrapper.c
make: /bin/sh: Command not found
make: *** [wrapper] Error 127
Since questions at this level of simplicity appear to offend some
listmembers it is acceptable to me if someone (anyone) would like to reply
off-list. My questions are:
1) Can someone explain in detail what this means?
2) What do I do to make the system work right? Did I install something
incorrectly?
3) Would someone be willing to make themselves available to me for help
until I get things working? (I certyainly would try not to abuse such
generosity.)
4) What else will help this run better on a windows system?
5) The lpr command doesn't seem to work. Any ideas? (I know that's not a
domo question, but it would have saved me a lot of time in typing the
message. Is there any way to copy form cygwin32 to windows notepad?)
Thanks in advance for any help. I really would like to learn this and maybe
someday I can move to an all linux system.
Thanks again,
Scott
