You triggered an administrivia filter. The delay was the time it spent in
the owner's inbox.
We spent some time making this easier to deal with in the development
version. Approvals are much simpler (just reply to the bounce) and a
member can choose to be notified when their message is stalled and when it
is approved. Users can be exempted from admin checks, or they can moderate
their own messages. (This kills most spam, and you can send a messages
back like "you sent something which looks suspiciously like a list server
command; if you really want to send it to the list...".)
Testers are always welcome; I am putting out another snapshot today.
