Subject: Time line for outgoing mail

I've just been closing down a number of inactive lists, and started
wondering how soon Majordomo and sendmail use the files -- in
particular, how soon after sending the final message that the list is
being closed can I remove the files from the Lists directory and delete
the aliases from sendmail.cf?

It's a relevant question because I don't want to see a lot of bounces
coming back to the lists (some of these are discussion lists, and of
course some mailers are broken anyway).
