Subject: Z option?

I did a search on the mailing list archives and can't find the answer to
this question:

What I'd like to do is have archive2.pl use 'compress' or 'zcat' to save
my archive files to "listname.archive.YYYYMM.Z".

My attempts to add in additional lines in the aliases file just resulted
in nothing happening. And, yes, I did a "newaliases" after I was
finished.

What I did was add an additional line for listname-outgoing (beyond the
archive2.pl line) that said

"|/bin/compress /usr/local/mail/archive/listname/listname*"

and nothing happened when i sent mail to it. No stray ".Z" files
anywhere.

I'm missing the concept, it's clear.

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance.
