% apologize in advance:
% 1. How much is the time commitment that I should expect for that number of
% members. Let's say we are dealing with average 3-5 postings a day at the
% most (a very optimistic range 0 - 7 maybe?)
It depends on several variables:
1) How often do people join/leave.
(how often do bad addresses come up)
2) Is the list moderated or not
3) How on track are your list members.
I manage many lists. The time varies from less than 5 minutes
a week, to up to an hour a week.
But in general, it is a low level task.
% 2. What if I move from where I am now? How will that affect the functioning
% of the e-mail list? I mean, when I dismantle my computer from the current
% location, then go to another State, settle down, etc. and restart my
% computer again?
It depends on where you have the list set up.
If you keep the same machine domain name, and you put
it on your home computer, then you will not notice
any change.
However, most people don't have fixed domain names.
And in this case, you probably want the list
on a server that is not moving around.
% 3. Is the only memory requirement from my computer that of Mailing list
% management (MLM) software?
No. You also have the memory required by the Mail Delivery
process. usually what sendmail needs.
% 4. How can I prepare myself for the task (other than lurking with this forum
% and reading the FAQ several times). Do I need special education? Or to have
% someone with special technical expertise work with me?
Read the Orielly book about Managing Mailling lists.
