Subject: mkdigest doesn't always work..

Ok...
I searched the archives and found others with the problem, but no
answers...
Digesting runs fine automagically (ie MAX_LINES reached, etc) but if I try
a 
echo mkdigest test-digest <password> | mail majordomo@.clarkson.edu

all I get in reply is:

>>>> mkdigest test-digest template.admin

and no digests are sent out....
Anyone have some idea why this is?  I can send the digests out
automagically as stated above.... I'm seriously confused...
Help?
