Hi,
A new version of unix was installed, thus this installed new versions of
sendmail and sendmail.cf. Other than the new install, no other changes were
made, but majordomo problems began. The original problem was that the list
owner failed to be recognized as a subscriber to the list, therefore, he
could not administer the list. Do you know what could have cause him not to
be recognized as a subscriber? Like I said before, there were no changes made
other than the new install. He can get around that problem if he subscribes
himself from another machine but that is not a good long-term solution. So to
get it around it, someone suggested that he edit the header section of the
new version of sendmail with the header of the old version. This fixed the
problem of him not being recognized as a subscriber, so he can administer the
list from his machine, but it caused a new problem. When some (same specific
people every time) people submit posts to the mailing list, the "from" line
is blank, so the other members of the list can't tell who wrote it. The
missing from line is not as big of a problem as the problem of him not being
recognized as a subscriber and that is why we left it with the missing from
lines. We can go back to the unedited version of sendmail if we knew how to
fix the "not subscribed" problem. As I said before, the missing from lines
only happens to SOME people and not others. I have looked at a headers from
each of the "missing from line" people compared to the not missing ones and I
don't see anything that stands out. By the way, here is all of the system
info: Version 1.93 of majordomo, version 8.8.6 of sendmail, perl 5.002, HP-UX
version 10.20 operating system. Machine name is HPwsrt. Any help that you can
provide will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mary
