Majordomo strips out characters

I would appreciate any help anyone can give me.  I'm at my wits end.  

When I post newinfo and/or newintro to my majordomo list, it strips out 
characters.

I'm not sure exactly which version we are using, but it was recently 
upgraded to the latest version just a few months ago.

This is my problem.  When I send new info with this:

it becomes this when distributed to new subscribers:

and this:

becomes this:

Any ideas?
