The problem could be just a little bit more complex!
It could depend on the configuration of all your network. Maybe your
network/system manager has configured a sendmail relay. Or
he/she has configured an "anti-spam" filter (this seems to me the real
scenario, gived your sequence).
Or (please, system/network manager, do not shot me!) he/she
misconfigured the relay or your machine is not in the DNS database!
What the message your coutrepart receive is ? (maybe "unknown user" ??)
What your network configuration is?
