Subject: creating lists for courses -- capacity?

I'm moving toward creating majordomo lists for the courses the are
taught here. Each semester, I'd create about 1500 separate lists.
Membership of each list might range from 10 up to 700 students.

I'm wondering if there's any experience out there relevant to my
questions about whether a single server machine (small to moderate
size sparc) is sufficient to provide this service?

I have two questions --

1) will majordomo have any problem if I configure 1500 lists on a
single server machine? If yes, what's a "reasonable" maximum number
of lists per machine?

2) will majordomo have a problem with a list membership greater than
500 people (I presume this is NOWHERE NEAR the number of people that
majordomo supports on many existing lists; however, I'm just trying
to be prudent in asking this).

thanks.
