colon in email addresses

I get a colon at the end of some email addresses, like in the help file, 
welcome message , this will cause trouble for anyone clicking the mailto 
links


Anyone know of the exact area that causes this colon?  the .cf file?     I 
have the hostname specified in there

$whereami = "hostname.domain.com";
