You should run majordomo 1.94.4 and sendmail 8.9.3 if possible.

It is not probable that majordomo as such is causing the extra copies. It
could be sendmail, but it could also be some server of your subscribers
resending the mail. You should compare the RECIEVED headers of the copies
to see if some of them has taken some strange detour. You could also make
your list moderated to have better control over what mail that should be
sent out to the list.
