Subject: Non-members writing list messages

For some strange reason it seems that people who *aren't* members of my
list are able to write messages to it!
I've received several "subscribe" requests to the list itself (people
who have confused the list and command addresses), so obviously these
are people who aren't members already.

How/what do I set in the configuration file to make it possible only
for existing members to write to the list? I find it strange that this
isn't a default value (or perhaps I've changed this feature without
knowing it).
