I agree with you Bob. It seems reasonable that announcement type
lists, or news lists, should have a reply-to $SENDER. But for a
discussion, it should be reply-to $LIST. I'm always surprised that
this list isn't run that way.
The result is that, because reply-to-all is the way to reply-to-the-
list, the participants in the discussion end up with multiple copies
of the messages, sort of a drag, a punishment for participating. And
like you say, topics wander away, which is frustrating for those who
are trying to learn. I can't think of a good point in having reply-to
$SENDER for this list.
The other thing I always wonder about about this list is that the
subject-prefix isn't used. It would help me a lot to have [MD] at
the front of the messages.
