We have sofware we have developed for this purpose. We use it to allow
the listowner an easy way to view members of the list and protect it against
unauthorized use through the use of .htaccess password protection.
The software is not free. Please contact me if you are interested in
purchasing it. You can see a restricted version of it at
http://www.psubs.org/mlist/index.html. Click on "Psubs Member Stats".
It shows the current date and the number of email addresses currently
signed up on the mailing list. The unrestricted version shows the same
information but also displays each email address. You can use it in
either mode so that publicly, your members can see how many people are
on the list and privately so that you can view the email addresses.
