You have exactly the problem stated in the error
message; /usr/local/majordomo/lists is not writable by, I'm assuming, your
majordomo user. You should make the directory owner and group equal to
your majordomo user and then chmod it to the correct permissions...
Mine is:
drwxr-xr-x 2 majordom majordom 12288 Aug 26 20:00 lists/
As long as you do not have g+w or o+w you should be ok. The key thing is
that the majordomo user can access the directory freely.
