I was about to post a 'me too' message to this list as I have had exactly the
same problems as Doug Harper over this. I can do administrative tasks such as
subscribing and other commands. However, messages sent to a list address seem to
just disappear. They are saved in the archive but never make it to the
list recipients. I also have similar aliases setup as Doug (Basically copied
from the NEWLISTS file and have seen the other messages on this list and also
some of the sendmail lists. What was really baffling is the absence of error
messages. The only difference is I have never had the benefit of it actually
working prevoiusly! This is my first installation.
Then I noticed the comment Doug made
"make sure the lists directory tree has no group writable bits set". Well to be
specific, I was setting some of the group bits writable so I set directories
and files 755 and everthing started working. However, I've re-read the FAQ and
it says the files should be set to 660 or 664. Surely, this means setting group
bits writeable again?
Anyway, it's still working so I would have thought it was something to do with
permissions.
I hope this helps.
Regards
Chris Sheppard
