I'm not a dns expert, but my understanding is that I would
have to recreate the host record at internic, change the
primary Name Server Records for the domains hosted on this
box, then wait for things to re-resolve... If not, I'll try
it, but I couldn't risk having the domains down for days at
a time due to the non-existence of the name server.

I can't send any commands to "majordomo@anywhere" but I can
send commands to "somelist@somevirtualdomain.com" hosted on
our box and the administrator gets a reply message like
"BOUNCE example-list_site1@atoznet.com: Admin request:
/^subject:\s*help\b/i Admin request of type /^\s*help\s*$/i
at line 1"

Yep, it's all on one machine. I can send mail from there, no
problem.

Well, there are several virtual domains besides
"www.atoznet.com" on this box... and besides, I didn't edit
the file by hand. The Cobalt rack mount machines come with a
GUI that does all that for you :^) Anyhow, Majordomo
originally WAS installed at _site1 (the first virtual site:
www.atoznet.com) several years ago... it's never been part
of the same "domain" as the box itself (which was
raq7.atoznet.com, then ns1.atoznet.com)

It was renamed, not moved. I'll try chowning and chmoding
things this weekend, however, I note that MD worked fine for
the last two years with these perms...

The problem is not that you are

No, and this is precisely what the problem is (I think)...
like I said I'm not a dns expert, but I've obviously hosed
it somehow. I've just discovered in /etc/named is this
record "pri.201.230.63.in-addr.arpa", a VERY old IP that
hasn't belonged to this box in over two years. It contains
old records to domains that aren't even on the box anymore
and I have no idea what's up with that. I doubt it's related
to my majordomo problem, though, especially since everything
WAS fine.

Well, don't risk your own work for mine, I'll be trying to
get some DNS help from another list until then. You've been
a great help in any case, I appreciate it. Thank you.
