OK, we made a lot of progress, but still have a permissions problem.
Here is Jim's question:
"majordomo 1.94.4 is running as UID/GID majordom. all functions in a
shell script are now functioning to create new lists automatically via a
webserver interface. the problem appears to be that the UID/GID of
majordom has insufficient system authority to run the sendmail
newaliases command. have others encountered this problem? it appears
that the only solutions to bypass this problem are either to augment the
privilege level of majordom UID/GID or run a crontab forcing a
newaliases command. Unfortunately this latter solution prevents
immediate new list availability."
