Thanks for the advice on my permissions issue.
 
I finally found the right combination for the directories:
 
user: mail
group: majordomo

su to whoever user 8 (probably mail) is and see if you can create files
in /var /var/lib /var/lib/majordomo and see if you can cat the file
lists.  Chances are that you created a majordomo user with the intention
of having wrapper su to that user, but for some reason wrapper is su'ing
to user mail instead.  I would suggest that you maybe forgot to edit the
Makefile before you compiled the wrapper.
