Setting ownership of majordomo or any majordomo mailing lists
to root is a bad idea.  This is most likely why you are getting
your "abort" messages.  Set the owner- and -owner addresses to
a real person that is not aliased by root, postmaster, or 
majordomo, and your lists should start working again.
