Your list is working exactly as expected. The intro 
file you write is appended to the canned message from 
majordomo.

This is a Good Thing, because many list owners would 
likely forget to include some important information 
such as uns*bscribing instructions. 

If you want to modify the full text, you'll have to dig 
into the actual code. It isn't hard; this is just a 
perl script. Find a significant line of text from the 
canned intro and grep the files in your majordomo 
directory to find the one to work on. I don't remember 
right off which one has this in it, but the standard 
intro verbage is embedded in majordomo.
