That works very well if all your customers use POP3 mail, but if you have
customers doing UNIX shell logins and using pine, elm or whatever then
they will never see the announcements. I used to use qpopper's "bulletin"
feature to hit my POP3 users and Solaris' "news" feature to hit my UNIX
shell users, but that was double work. For the past several years I have
been using a closed Majordomo list to which only I can post (using
restrict-post), with the subscriber list created by a script running
against my /etc/passwd file. Works great.
