Permissions Problems

I am new to Majordomo...

I am trying to get the permissions correct so I can send out to the list
called "fcweekly".

Majordomo ver 1.94.4
installed in: /usr/local/majordomo


If I do: chmod 711 /usr/local/majordomo/lists
The email bounces with the following: 
MAJORDOMO ABORT (mj_resend)!! 
shlock: '/usr/local/majordomo/lists' is not writable by UID 8 GID 12





So then I: Chmod 771 /usr/local/majordomo/lists

The email bounces with the following:

550 5.2.4 :include:/usr/local/majordomo/lists/fcweekly... Cannot open /usr/local/majordomo/lists/fcweekly: Group writable directory

(UID 8/GID 12 ==> "mail") so I tried a chown mail on
/usr/local/majordomo/lists ...but still no luck

Does the permissions on /usr/local/majordomo make a difference?
