You might be better off stripping the HTML before
you archive the messages.  There is a tool called
demime available, and more recently another tool
that specifically strips HTML but you will have
to dig through the archives for 2001 majordomo-users
at greatcircle.com to get the URLs for thes tools.
Sorry, I just don't have a very good memory on the
eve of Independence Day.
