I've seen this explanation before, too; but I don't buy it. Has anyone been
able to confirm that this is a real problem or is it a myth??? I have run
my 4000 member list a couple of times on my lowly P-120 and it takes a few
hours for all the messages to go out (it is sorted by domain). sendmail
queue is set to 30 minutes and I didn't experience this problem.

However, I did end up with duplicates!! I found that the message was
actually being redirected back to my server from a member of the list. The
problem was NOT with sendmail. The message came back to my server
appearing to have been posted directly to list by the original poster. A
dump of the message was byte-for-byte the same as original, except for a
few extra headers that identified its path to recipient and back. These
duplicates got through a second time because I didn't install any loop
checking.

I still haven't installed the loop-check. I change listname.post to be
invalid address until user wants to send his bulkmail. To send to list, I
fix this file, have user submit message and the after message is posted, I
immediately disable list again.

I haven't tried this, but I'm sure this would reproduce the problem.
Create a list with one member testdup@yourdomain.com - also add an entry to
your /etc/mail/virtualusertable that redirects email for this user back to
your mailing list (basically an alias for your mailing list). Send a
message to your list and you should have a loop.
