newlist3.pl script

Dan: Ouch! Just tried your script "newlist3.pl" and it died on first line (#48) as follows:

I'm not very good at debugging scripts, so thought I'd check this with you. Am running as 'root' of course. Long ways to go....!! Lemme know, I'm still game to keep going...
