Yo, Dan Liston. You will probably see the earlier post of mine about my
efforts to upgrade FBSD-4.5 (Unix) to 4.7 which includes sendmail 8.12.6
Under 4.5, majordomo-1.94.5_1, things were running file after using your
newlist3 script (also with some mods from me to fit FBSD Unix).
As admin, I can send a new address and it will write the addition to the
list, so it see and is able to write. However, if I send out a post, it
does nothing.
I have the new uid:gid setup changes from sendmail 8.11 to 8.12 -- smmsp
and mailnull. FBSD-4.5 won't even install without them.
I did miss adding "majordom" as Trusted user to sendmail.cf, nor did I add
majordom, daemon, etc to group smmsp, however my gut tells me that is
probably not the problem.
The lists are on a very busy server with vhosts, most all of which I host
without comp because they are International sites where members (several
1000s on each) contribute services. It is not good to have the mail lists
unavailable for very long while I am experimenting with "fixes" so the
lists will work again. The regular mail system sendmail/qpopper works fine
-- just MJ is a problem.
Another thing: newaliases did not see "aliases.majordomo" anymore. Had to
move it to /etc/mail rather than the link to /usr/local/majordomo/ that was
used before upgrade.
My first attempt at upgrading failed becaause of this and I had to revert
back to FBSD-4.5 after an hour+ of frantic trials/errors. Oh, my "includes"
lists fail too (in files at /etc/mail/"include-list") -- no longer seen by
sendmail 8.12. I vaguely recall seeing something about DOCs on the
includes, but haven't found them yet.
I've got to take another shot at it tonight or stay at FBSD-4.5 forever and
that's not desirable.....
Your eXpert thoughts please as to what I've missed -- is it the things
above?
