For years, hotmail was run completely on BSD. MS bought them with plans
to convert all mailservers to Exchange. They tried several times and
failed several times. At this point (hearsay), it seems they have
successfully migrated everything over to Exchange, but at the cost of 5
Exchange boxes for every BSD box they replaced. Their peripheral
machines are still running BSD (nameservers for example).
I do not work for them, nor do I know anybody who does, this is all
third-hand, so if I'm wrong, it's only because I'm ignorant.
