We're occasionally seeing an error message like the two below. I've just
substituted an "abc" or "xyz" for the real user name and first part of the
domain name. What I haven't changed and am trying to figure out is the
double dot org. In our zubscriber file the person's address doesn't have a
double dot org at the end but the error messages suggest that somewhere
along the way the messages are considered to have a .org.org at the end of
the email address. We've seen this with about four different domain names in
the past couple of months.
Example #1
553 5.3.5 xyz.org.org. config error: mail loops back to me (MX problem?)
554 5.3.5 xyzxyz@xyz.org... Local configuration error
Example #2
> ----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -----
><abcabc@abc.org.org>
> (reason: 553 5.3.5 system config error)
>
> ----- Transcript of session follows -----
>553 5.3.5 abc.org.org. config error: mail loops back to me (MX problem?)
>554 5.3.5 Local configuration error
The closest thing I can find to a clue via google is this message
http://www.zmailer.org/mhalist/2002/msg00192.html
which seems to indicate that something similar can occur if at the recipient
end someone's
/etc/resolv.conf file lacks a 'domain' line (whatever that means).
I'm curious to know whether others of you are seeing .org.org within some of
your bounced messages and, if so, whether you may know what the problem is
that 's causing that. Thanks for any advice.
