hi ya
since i spent a day spinning my tail ... needlessly
-- always the last thing one looks at to solve a problem ..
- all because the machine didnt have make/gcc... so i copied
(carefully?) sendmail-8.12.9 files over manually from a working system
but majordomo didnt work.. ( testing it locally first )
# echo "list" | mail -v -s majordomo
# mail -v -s "teseting info" info
- here's the error messages i was getting amongst other errors
Apr 2 16:56:48 ns sendmail[14519]: h327um42014519: SYSERR(majordom): collect: Cannot write ./dfh327um42014519 (bfcommit, uid=498, gid=225): Permission denied
#
Apr 2 17:02:18 ns sendmail[14560]: NOQUEUE: SYSERR(root): readqf: cannot open ./dfh327vA9a014524: No such file or directory
google searches didnt turn up much hints about
bfcommit and readqf errors
- so now this mesg too will hopefully find its way into the
various search engines
-- solution was to also copy over /etc/mail/submit.cf
( last thing to try out next... after a long hair pulling debugs
-- having a missing submit.cf just screws up majordomo
but regular incoming/outgoing email works fine
-- added more things to the majordomo setup test

http://www.linux-sec.net/Mail/Sendmail-Install-HOWTO/permissions.txt
-- happy camper... earned my fee for the day... :-)
c ya
