When creating mail lists. I found that any logner than 25 characters would
just loop with the confirmation email.  So every time you would reply, it
would send you anothr email asking to confirm your subscription.

How have you "found" this?  What fails?

If it exists, you may be able to raise it, but not beyond some number near
55 or so -- because the RFCs restrict the localpart of an email address to
64 characters, and you'd nead to allow for "LISTNAME-approval" at the very
least.
