I have not tried the html stripper patch, but I can
tell you even without it, your sendmail is providing
information in the headers about your system that you
may not want it to. For example, I can see that the
majordomo user is untrusted, and that your list goes
out via a listname-outgoing alias. A smart spammer
would be able to use this information to spam your
list without getting caught by "resend" policies.
In your listname: alias, add ",nobody" after the
listname-outgoing destination.
In your sendmail.cf, add "Tmajordomo", or add a line
with just "majordomo" to the /etc/mail/trusted-users
file.
In your virtusertable, if it is enabled in sendmail.cf,
add this line;
"listname-outgoing<tab>error:nouser User unknown".
Now back to HTML stripper. This patch does not make
majordomo MIME aware TTBOMK. The example you provided
looks like a reply from a client that "attached" the
original message to the reply, or they forwarded the
same message back into the list as an attachment. Or
perhaps their email client software just automatically
"attaches" all message bodies rather than inserting
them into the message inline.
The demime tool is a better fit for converting the
MIME attachments, or stripping them out completely.
If you do not mind attachments being distributed out
to the list, you might only demime messages that are
destined to the digest or archive utilities. This
configuration is just a matter of where you place
the tool in your aliases, and which aliases are used
in the outgoing alias.
