Hi all,

I'm a bit confused about how archiving works in majordomo. I've used
archive2.pl (e.g., "wrapper archive2.pl -f lists/test.archive/test -D
-a"). When a new message is sent to the test list, two new files are
being created under lists/test.archive, namely L.test.20040324 and
test.20040324. The first file contains "11803" and the latter is empty,
i.e., the email message is not archived.

My questions are:

1. What does 11803 mean?
2. How to prevent messages being overwritten when a new message is being
sent to the list?
3. How can I get the actual message being stored in the archive?
4. Does archive2.pl have to run continuously in the background in order
for archiving to work?
If so, what is the best way of achieving this. It seems like a very
fragile system. If the server goes down then
you'd have to restart archive2.pl for each list. Is this correct?

I'm very grateful for any help on this matter.

Thanks,

Fred
