Thanks Ed,
At the moment, I'm having trouble with approving bounced messages in my test
list.
I keep finding my post to approve simply appears in its entirety in the
mailing list, complete with my password. If I can't sort this out quickly,
then it will be easier for me to leave restrict post empty for the time
being as time is at a premium at the moment.
Actually, "reply to" is something I'd wondered about. Somewhere on the web I
found one mention of problems changing the "reply to" field. For my list,
it's important that when people read a message and hit "reply" it goes to
the whole list. It is a discussion/support group and we all need to be able
to see responses - there will be people who are benefiting by reading
messages and prefer not to post. Many members are likely not to be highly IT
confident and won't know to keep checking what has been filled in
automatically in the reply field.
So I've set it to
reply_to = listname

It all depends on what you are trying to do with the list. Personally, I
find no reason to allow non-subscribers to post if the list is for the
purpose of discussion of a particular subject matter.
IMO, the simplest and set up is to use the follwing:
moderate = no
non_member_bounce = sender-owner
restrict_post = [list]
subscribe_policy = open+confirm
unsubscribe_policy = open+confirm
This allows posting by members only, allows members to subsscribe and
unsubscribe with confirmation to their email address, and sends bounces
back to the sender and list owner so the owner can take action if
necessary...
Of course we could always get into the discussion of "reply_to" ...
