I'm having a problem with the settings for people to ssubscribe themselves
to my mailing list.

My config file reads:

ssubscribe_policy    =   open+confirm

I thought that when someone sends a subscription request from their own
e-mail address, they would get an e-mail from Majordomo asking them to reply
with the authentication code. And once they had sent that mail, they would
be ssubscribed and receive the Welcome e-mail.

What seems to be happening, is that when they send the initial request, they
get two mails (one the confirmation request and one a "Majordomo results"
saying they'll be sent the confirmation request!) But once they send the
confirmation, they get a third mail saying waiting for me to approve them
and I get the approve request which I have to send back to ssubscribe them.

I thought the point of "open" was that it doesn't need list manager
approval. And "confirm" is to stop people maliciously signing up other
people.

What am I getting wrong?

(Just in case - the trial address I was subscribing is hotmail - does that
sometimes glitch?)

Thank you for your help.

Clare
