Temporarily disable

Greetings,
As simple as this may sound, I have not successfuly found the answer to my 
question in the existing bank of replies.



I need to temporarily disable one of my mailing lists, i.e. I dont not want 
people to be able to register, no do I wish to receive any message that 
someone is trying to register to my list.

Is there an effective way to simply DISABLE a mailing list?
