I created a perl script a few years ago to assist with the
aliases and virtusertable files. It also helps where your
domain and it's lists are hosted by another domain's server.

Majordomo depends completely on your MTA for communication with
the outside world. Aliases seem to be the best way to make the
connection between the two. As you get used to doing something
it becomes more comfortable.
