Are there any plans to implement suspend and resume functions in future
versions of majordomo ? As postmaster at my site I would regard them as
very useful for preventing mailboxes filling up when people go on
vacation.
I've hacked our local version of 1.92 to include 'suspend' by duplicating
most of 'unsubscribe' with the difference that the removed name is put in
a file <listname>.susp. 'resume' is then the inverse of 'suspend'. The
only disadvantage (and I'm not sure it is a disadvantage) is that when
suspended, you aren't seen as a member of the list.
I haven't tried it, but presumably I could also add a mail alias to
construct a list <listname>-urgent which included both the address files
<listname> and <listname>.susp. This should probably be restricted to
list owners or everyone would use it.
Since this has taken only a couple of hours, I will probably repeat the
exercise on v2.0 when it arrives if the functions aren't otherwise
available.
By the way, is the 'rewrite spec' mentioned in the majordomo documentation
available on any public site ? I've tried ftp.greatcircle.com, the
archives of this list and the WWW FAQ page and can't find it.
Thanks for a great program,
Andrew
