I must say I feel more comfortable with the viewpoint Roger presents -
keep the config file itself in minimal form, and provide external
tools, if you want, for editing, checking consistency, creating a
descriptive version of the list from the minimal one (i.e., merge
variable settings from config file with descprtive text from some
other file), etc. This sort of model works pretty well with the
"configure" stuff that's in so many PD programs - what's actually
produced is generally stripped of the comments, but you get the
text when you're going through filling in the blanks...
