I am a subscriber to the MAPINFO-L mailing list maintained by Bill
Thoen ( bill.thoen@gisnet.com ), running on Majordomo.
MAPINFO-L generates a lot of traffic (20-40 messages daily), and also
has a lot of people subscribing & unsubscribing.
Two recurring problems exist, for you may have the solution(s):
1) If an e-mail to the list is sent with a "confirm-reading" and/or
"confirm-delivery" request, then Majordomo should acknowledge
these request(s) and strip them from the message before forwarding it
to 1000+ list subscribers.
2) When an e-mail to the list is sent with UNSUBSCRIBE in the subject
line, or as the first word of the message, (99% of the misdirected unsusbscribe
requests appear like this, sometimes several times a day), then Majordomo
should get clever and process the request instead of forwarding it to
1000+ list subscribers. Perhaps the same could be done with the misdirected
SUBSCRIBE requests?
I would appreciate your comments, and would like to post the reply to
MAPINFO-L as we waste lots of bandwidth with the above problems.
Regards,
