1.94 and lists starting with 0-9

Is there something in majordomo or sendmail v8.7.6 that doesn't like list
names starting with a number ?

I recently installed 1.94b1 and everything is working well except all lists
that start with a number letter than a letter are failing with an error '2'.

I tried sticking the 1.94b4 resend in there and it changed to error '0'.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I'm running this on a HP/UX 10.10
system with wrapper 'posix' setuid root and group daemon, more 4755.
Everything other than these list seems ok.
